Gymkhana Club holds section polls

Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club

DAR ES SALAAM Gymkhana Club tennis section will be under captaincy of Metusela Mbajo who was elected unopposed replacing Inger Njau who did not seek re-election last Tuesday.
The new captain will be assisted by Mustafa Jafar who narrowly defeated Kiango Kipingu as Joyce Marwa becomes the secretary having edged Sanjeev Choksi by two votes margin.
William Kalaghe was trusted to become treasurer unopposed while as Salum Mvita was voted to be ground member.
Seven other tennis players and ardent followers Karim Kassam, Morris Leonard, Hassan Kassim, Ismael Omari, Saada Mufuruki, Leza Peera and Amir Moledina contested for executive membership.
Of the line up Leonard, Kassim , Omari and Peera sailed through.
The new captain promised to work   hard to improve the section and courts conditions. In the club’s squash section Akir Hirji won re-election as the captain over the weekend.
 Hirji’s assistant Ali Remtulla retained his post as vice captain while Ummi Kulthum Abdallah becomes secretary of the section.
Shabnam Faki was elected as treasurer of the section while Mohamed Khimji and Sio Solomon were elected as members.
Accepting his re election, Hirji promised to work hard to develop the section and cooperate with other squash clubs in the country.
He also disclosed that he is working closely with Ministry of Labor and Employment to acquire services of Zambian coach Nape Bwalya.
 “I’m very happy that during my first tenure in office I have managed to achieve what I promised\, I remember well that I promise to source funds for the renovation of courts and also improve the game at the club.  Today I’m happy that I have managed to achieve that, on the issue of the coach I can assure you that he is coming soon as there are   modalities which we are working out”, he said.
Speaking earlier  on behalf of other squash players veteran squash player Ameen Kashmir thanked Hirji for his dedication and hardworking towards the development of the game at the club.
He also asked Hirji and his committee to make sure that the Zambian coach comes soon.
Hirji was elected early last year to replace Deepak Doshi.
